8 Easy Upgrades for Your Kitchen That You Can Accomplish this Weekend

The kitchen is arguably the most important room of your house. It’s a central hub of the home where your whole family gathers to cook, talk and laugh. Which is why it’s worth a little bit of extra attention.

You don’t need to go through a laborious remodel to have a nice kitchen. You don’t even have to spend a lot of money! The following is a list of eight easy kitchen upgrades that you can totally pull off in a weekend. Keep reading for ways to make your kitchen space look expensive, luxurious, and uniquely yours.

1. Opt for New Lighting

When you’re looking to upgrade a room of your house, always start with lighting. The kitchen is a great place for a chandelier or hanging overhead light. We are particularly drawn to hanging pendants, or naked Edison bulbs for an industrial look. While you’re upgrading your light fixtures, also consider installing lights underneath your cabinets. It will add some elegant under lighting to your entire kitchen.

2. Upgrade Hardware

Something as simple as replacing the handles on your cabinets and kitchen drawers can do wonders for your space. It can modernize your look and add an element of elegance to the entire room. Additionally, making this swap is really easy to do once you’ve picked out some hardware you like.

3. Add Some Greenery

Personally, we like a little greenery in every room of the house. And the kitchen is no exception. But be intentional about the plant life you put in this room. This is the perfect space for an herb garden on a windowsill, or a draping plant down the side of a cabinet. Check out our list of the top 5 houseplants of 2021 for some additional inspo.

4. Buy an Industrial Faucet

Restaurant-level faucets add an elevated look to your sink area. Industrial faucets also stand taller, which will give some texture to your kitchen. Besides looking nice, they make washing the dishes an absolute breeze. Who can argue with that?

5. Paint Your Cabinets

A fresh coat of paint on your cabinets will sharpen their appearance and make them look much more expensive than they actually are. We recommend either going with a light color or a dark matte theme.

6. Get a Peel & Stick Backsplash

Tile work isn’t for everyone...but it just looks so dang good. That’s when peel and stick backsplashes save the day. Pick out a new tile design for your kitchen and install it in the course of an afternoon.

7. Install an Open Shelf

Open shelves serve a double purpose. They are great for both storage and the display of your favorite dishware. After finding some nice slabs of wood, go to the hardware store to find the appropriate weight-bearing fixtures.

8. Create a Focal Point

This is an easy kitchen add-on that you can accomplish after one trip to the farmers market. Create a focal point that draws the eye and the nose. We recommend a fresh bouquet of flowers in a nice vase or a bowl of fruit in the middle of the countertop. Here’s our secret tip: fill a bowl with some fresh citrus, but zest a small section of each orange or lemon. Put the zested side face down in the bowl. Your kitchen will smell of fresh citrus--simply divine.
